Flowing Li-He thermalization simulations

This simulation investigates the thermal relaxation of a cluster containing tunable lithium atoms, initially at temperature of the Li, interacting with a helium bath maintained at a constant temperature. Using a simplified collision-based energy-transfer model, it calculates the evolution of the cluster temperature, the energy transferred to helium, and the characteristic timescale required to approach thermal equilibrium.

Simulation

Using a simplified kinetic model, the Mathematica simulation calculates the lithium temperature as a function of time and distance, the energy transferred to helium, and the characteristic thermalization time.

The model considers several important parameters:
-Helium density: Determines how frequently lithium atoms collide with helium.
-Collision cross section: Describes the probability of Li–He collisions.
-Gas flow velocity: Determines how long lithium remains in the cooling region.
-Interaction length: Determines the distance available for thermalization.
